Columbus W. Jeffers

District 1

Columbus Jeffers of Roanoke Rapids has served on the Roanoke Electric Co-op Board of Directors since 2011. A native of Halifax, he graduated from Halifax County Technical Institute, where he studied business administration. For 38 years, he worked for Dominion Energy and retired as a Senior Safety Coordinator

In addition to his role at Roanoke Electric, he also serves as a board member of the Tarheel Electric Membership Corporation; chairman of the Halifax Community Alumni Association; and a board member of Angel’s Closet, an ecumenical ministry in Roanoke Rapids. He attends First Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, where he previously served as chairman of the deacon board and continues to be actively involved in its outreach ministry. For the past 15 years, he has “adopted” an elderly person in a local rest home, where he offers transportation, friendly visits and other necessities.

As for the co-op’s future, Jeffers hopes it continues to strive for affordability, not only for electricity but also for broadband services. “I am confident that Roanoke will continue to provide products and services that meet the diverse needs of our member-owners… and stand out as a pillar in the surrounding communities.”
