Allen Speller

Chairman

District 8

For more than two decades, Allen Speller has served on the Board of Directors for Roanoke Electric Cooperative. Prior to his appointment as chairman, he served as its vice chair.

He was born and raised in Bertie County. For the past 26 years, he has worked as a probation officer specializing in training to combat gang violence in the community.

During his career, Speller has also served a variety of leadership roles, both locally and nationally. He is an advisory board member for State Employees Credit Union; a deacon board member at Cedar Landing Missionary Baptist Church; a nominating committee member for CoBank; and a board member of the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives and the North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation, the power supplier for the state’s electric co-ops.

Considering the distressed economic conditions in northeastern North Carolina, Speller said that keeping rates affordable for the entire membership remains his top priority as board chairman. Reflecting on his tenure, he is especially proud of the co-op’s well-established tradition of community outreach. “I am confident that the co-op will continue to lead in the effort of enhancing the lives of our member-owners.”
