Roanoke Economic Development, Inc. (REDI) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 affiliate of Roanoke Cooperative. REDI is a self-supporting organization that is funded separately and independently from the Co-op. REDI and REDI programs are funded through foundation grants, program partner donations, and the tax-deductible contributions of the businesses and individuals served by the Center and whose lives and communities the Center programs work to improve.

REDI Causes
The Sustainable Forestry and Land Retention Project works to restore and conserve threatened forest land in Roanoke Electric’s service area by increasing forest-owner income and land asset values. The project engages youth and young adults in learning what they need to know to advance sustainable forestry on their family lands and provides role models, mentoring, and internship opportunities to begin cultivating future natural resource professionals.

Nearly 30 percent of Roanoke Electric Co-op member-owner households have an income of less than $25,000 a year. Many of these households in our community struggle with paying the monthly power bill. The co-op, working through The Roanoke Center, has created a community solar low-income assistance sponsorship program via its Roanoke SolarShare initiative to help member-owners facing financial hardship. These funds help member-owners who are in need of financial assistance. Your donations help us create a better quality of life and make a big difference in our local communities.

REDI general community activities
If you don’t want to choose a specific program, you may elect to have us choose the area where your funds are most needed at the time of your donation. Support the full range of citizen support and community economic development activities that the nonprofit Roanoke Center provides to build strong, healthy, and sustainable communities in our region. We will ensure your contribution is applied where it can make the biggest difference right away.
REDI also is proud to host a Blessing Box for the Purple Angel Foundation, a charitable food and clothing pantry. Members of the community are encouraged to “take what you need, and leave what you can.”
