Crews move quickly to restore power in wake of Hurricane Isaias

Hurricane Isaias roared through Roanoke Electric Cooperative’s on Aug. 4, leaving a path of destruction and 6,500 outages in its service territory. Taking the brunt of its wrath was Bertie County, where two people were killed and several were injured after a tornado touched down at the Windsor mobile home park.

While most post power outages were restored within 24 hours, restoration efforts proved more challenging in Bertie County, where nearly 2,700 member-owners lost power.

“In addition to the massive amount of damage done to homes and vehicles,  Isaias took out poles and power lines, extending our restoration efforts in that county,” said Jimmy Liverman, the co-op’s VP of Operations. By Aug. 7, all power was restored – owed, in part, to assistance from mutual aid crews from Carolina Power and Halifax EMC .

“I’d like to send a heartfelt thanks to all our crews that served on the frontline to restore power as quickly as possible,” said Liverman. “We are most grateful for their selfless and tireless efforts. We are also extend special thanks to our member-owners for their patience and support during our storm recovery efforts.”
