Co-op to award $8,000 in Bright Ideas grants

Roanoke Electric Cooperative will award $8,000 in Bright Ideas grants to local teachers in support of innovative classroom learning projects for their students.

Educators who apply this year may receive grants up to $2,000 each. Applications submitted by Aug. 15, the early bird deadline, will be entered to win one of five $100 Visa gift cards.

The grants are available to K-12 teachers for projects in any subject, and educators can apply individually or as a team. “With much of instruction transitioning to online learning, coming up with innovative ways to make learning fun and impactful, has taken on a whole new meaning,” said Patrice Jordan, the co-op’s coordinator of community relations and engagement.  “We encourage teachers to use this to their advantage as they plan for the upcoming school year.”

To apply, teachers must have approval from their school’s principal. Applications will be judged through a competitive evaluation process, with judges looking for projects that feature inventive and creative approaches to learning.

Applications will be accepted at NC Electric Cooperatives until Sept. 15.  Grant-writing tips can be found at
