Co-op takes steps to resume normal business operations

Roanoke Electric Cooperative has announced its lobby will be reopening on Aug. 24, as normal business operations resume. This announcement includes plans to lift the suspension of disconnection for non-payment, beginning on Sept. 1.

“While we are pleased to reopen our lobby, we are doing so in a very safe and thoughtful manner,” said Curtis Wynn, the co-op’s president and CEO.  “Because the health and safety of our member-owners and employees remains our top priority, we are reopening carefully and in accordance with regulatory requirements, best safety practices and other considerations.”

This includes a requirement that all visitors – as well as employees --  wear a face covering. The co-op will provide member-owners a disposable mask, if needed. Visitors will also be required to have their temperature checked upon entering the building.

As business returns to normal, so will billing and payment obligations, starting on Sept. 1.

“We know many of our member-owners may be facing financial challenges and are struggling to pay their electric bill,” Wynn said. “We want to help them avoid disconnection of their electric service and are willing to work with them on setting up a  payment plan up to six months. This will allow payment in installments, and hopefully make it easier for them to manage.”

If unable to make bill payments because of lingering financial hardship, please contact your county’s social services department and request the Crisis Intervention Program:
