You’re invited: Earth Day celebration April 24
Roanoke Electric Co-op invites all community members to join in its Earth Day celebration, Friday, April 24, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the co-op’s headquarters.
April 22nd marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, an annual event recognizing the importance of protecting the planet and its resources. Since its debut a half century ago, it has become what is considered one of the largest civic events in the world.
“We invite everyone to come out and be a part of this global movement to help the environment,” said Marshall Cherry, the co-op’s chief operating officer.
Community members are encouraged to attend the co-op’s celebration, which will feature a vendor showcase, activities for children, and special prize drawings.
Participants may also bring items, such as computers, TV’s and batteries, for recycling. A paper shredder company will also be onsite so participants can discard confidential and sensitive documents.
A key highlight of the event will be electric vehicle demonstrations. Earlier this year, the co-op launched its EV Pilot program, one of many initiatives being implemented to underscore the benefits of energy-efficient technologies.
