Embracing new era as your utility of the future
It is my great pleasure to open the year with exciting news! In January, Roanoke Electric Co-op will begin bringing high-speed internet to you via Roanoke Connect.
Last year, the co-op completed construction of the $4 million fiber optic network. As a result, Roanoke Connect has been able to improve power system operations and boost reliability with an enhanced internal communications system. Today, the co-op can better predict and manage outages, outage frequency and power restoration time.
The broadband technology is now poised to bring much-anticipated high-speed internet service to our community, as well as expanded opportunities to use smart grid technologies, such as water-heater controls and smart thermostats.
In a phased rollout, Roanoke Connect will provide access to high-speed internet service that can deliver world-class data transfer speeds. Phase II–rolling out the service to our entire membership – will take place over the next two to four years.
As we reflect on last year’s success in bringing Roanoke Connect to this next exciting phase, as well as our other accomplishments of 2017, we now look toward our 2018 goals. As we do so, we wish to thank our valued member-owners for your support and communication. Your feedback is the most crucial measure by which we gauge how well we are serving our membership and communities. You have continually recognized our efforts and we thank you.
