Co-op COO Cherry: Roanoke Connect bridging the rural broadband divide

In July, 2018, rural leadership from across the stated gathered in Pinehurst for the "Energizing Rural North Carolina: The Building Blocks of Successful Economic Development" conference. During the two-day discussions, REC Chief Operating Officer Marshall Cherry's outlines the co-op's Roanoke Connect initiative, which is building out broadband infrastructure across its service territory in order to not only deploy WiFi-enabled smart devices to increase efficiencies across its service territory, but to also bring broadband internet service to underserved homes and businesses in seven rural northeastern North Carolina counties  

In addition to Cherry,  North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation Vice President & Chief Executive Officer Joseph Brannan, reviews the larger issue of broadband access in rural areas throughout the state, and the role the state's other 25 electric cooperatives could play in bridging this rural divide.
