Operation RoundUp awards $16,000 in grants to local nonprofits
The Roanoke Electric Co-op Care Trust Board recently awarded $16,255 in grants to five programs benefiting area nonprofits. At its Oct. 16 meeting, the board designated funding support to the following organizations:
- Buckland Elementary School: Awarded $4,775.00 to purchase Chromebooks for fourth-grade students.
- Blue Jay Recreation Center: Awarded $3,000 to purchase an ice machine for the facility to supply ice and refreshments during community events and activities.
- Murfreesboro United Methodist Church: Awarded $2500 to purchase tables to assist Riverview Elementary School with various events.
- Bertie County Veterans Service Office: Awarded $5,000 to provide transportation assistance to 65 veterans to and from medical centers in Greenville, NC.
- Tillery Spectrum Connections: Awarded $980 in support of the first camp for local senior citizens called “The 21st Century Senior Camp.”
“Each of these programs will support the positive impact on our youth, veterans and overall community as a result of Operation RoundUp,” said Marshall Cherry, the co-op’s chief operating officer. “Because of our membership, the co-op is able to invest in the communities where member-owners and employees live and work.”
Through the Operation RoundUp program, member-owners can round up their electric bills to the next highest dollar each month to help charitable programs and initiatives in the community. Grants are allocated quarterly.
Local nonprofits are encouraged to apply for grant funding. To be considered for the first quarter of next year, applications must be submitted by 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 27, 2019.
