1. How do I sign up for service?
You can apply for service in the office, online, or over the phone. A deposit will be required with the connection charges pending the results of the cooperative deposit check program with Online Utility Exchange. The results will yield a total connection amount of $40.75, $190.75, $340.75, or $490.75. The minimum charge of $40.75 includes the member fee, meter fee, and connection charge. Any money to collect in excess of the amount is actually a security deposit. Upon collecting the applicable amount, the service will be connected upon approval from the county's respective Inspections Department.

If it is deemed that we will need to actually build or reroute a service, then we will schedule an appointment for you to meet with a staking engineer. This consultation should clarify how the service will be connected to the structure. Connection of service is typically 7 to 10 working days from the date that the job is ready to be released, if the structure has passed inspection by the county's respective office.

3. What is budget billing and how do I sign up for it?
Budget billing is a more convenient method of paying your electric bills by calculating your annual costs into equal monthly payments. While paying the same amount on your electric bill each month, you will also see how those payments reflect the account's actual balance. On the 11th month following your first budget billing month, the account will “settle” meaning the total balance on the account is the amount to pay.  The bill for that month should be fairly close to what you normally pay providing your energy usage is consistent with the previous year.  The account will automatically renew the new budget billing plan based on the previous 12 month’s usage after the “settlement.”

4. What is and how do I sign up for bank draft?
Bank draft is an automatic direct transfer of your money from your checking account or credit card to the cooperative for payment of your electric bill.  You can set this up online or call our office to have one of our Member Service Representatives set this up for you.

8. What is the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment charge on my electric bill?
The Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment is a factor that will change on your bill from month to month. The charge or credit reflects the actual cost of fuel used to generate electricity for that particular billing period. We cannot include all fuel costs in our base rates because the cost of fuel varies from month to month. The factor will be a charge or a credit toward your electric bill.

9. What is the “round-up amount” on my bill?
The round-up amount is the amount of your contribution to the cooperative’s Operation Round-Up® program. This program is a voluntarily member funded community service program developed to assist in needed projects and crises. This program raises funds by rounding up your electric bill to the next highest even dollar with the extra change used toward the program.

10. Why am I charged the $6.00 late charge?
A $6.00 late charge is assessed on the account, if the payment is not in the office by the due date. The due date on the account is typically 30 days after the day the bill is mailed.

11. What is the NC Renewable Charge on my bill?
The line item labeled “NC Renewable Charge” is the amount necessary to offset the cooperative’s cost associated with meeting the North Carolina General Assembly’s 2007 Renewable and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standards law.  This is the state’s mandate meaning there is potential for more cost to pass on if the U.S. Congress passes a bill to restrict carbon emissions by electric utility providers.  We need you to stay engaged with the effort to reduce the impact by staying tuned to the “Our Energy, Our Future” and “Find A Balanced Solution” campaigns.
